Undergraduate StudyThe McCormick Community
McCormick nurtures a community of over 1,600 undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds, all working together to become whole-brain™ engineers.
Academic Experience
In your first year, you’ll tackle group projects in the innovative Engineering First® program, where students build for themselves a strong foundation of engineering skills and work in teams to create design solutions for real clients.
You’ll collaborate with world-class faculty in small classes and have the opportunity to partner with graduate students on advanced research.
In the evenings, you’ll find that many undergraduates regularly work together on problem sets.
Extracurricular Activities
In your free time, you’ll have the opportunity to join one of the dozens of student groups Northwestern offers, including several engineering-based groups, like National Society of Black Engineers, National Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers.
You can also play intramural sports, enjoy Northwestern’s thriving performing arts scene, or take the train down to Chicago with friends.
“Making friends is really easy,” says civil engineering major Tony Guzman. “You’re all trying to do well, you all want to pass. Everyone is willing to help.”
McCormick Community
McCormick’s student engineers come from every background, from all over the world. Meet some McCormick students who will tell you their story – and why McCormick is where you want to be.
